Liquid Pool, Filter & Electrode Descaler – 5 L Purissimeau

Purissimeau Liquid Descaler – 5 L is an acidic cleaning product designed to remove stubborn limescale and rust deposits from swimming pool surfaces and compatible equipment. It can be used when cleaning an emptied pool, maintaining sand and diatomaceous earth (DE) filters, and descaling suitable electrodes.

Made in France, this liquid descaler contains a corrosion inhibitor and comes in a 5 L container. The recommended quantities and contact times depend on the specific cleaning application.

Important: This is an equipment and surface-cleaning product, not a water treatment to be poured directly into a filled swimming pool.

What is Purissimeau descaler used for?

Purissimeau descaler is intended for removing mineral deposits that build up on pool surfaces and filtration equipment.

Its documented applications include:

  • Cleaning swimming pool walls and surfaces during draining.

  • Removing limescale and rust deposits from compatible pool finishes.

  • Descaling sand filters and removable DE filter elements.

  • Cleaning electrodes approved for acidic descaling by their equipment manufacturer.

  • Removing mineral deposits from suitable poolside surfaces.

Can this descaler be added to a filled swimming pool?

No. Purissimeau descaler is intended for targeted cleaning of surfaces and equipment. The dilution recommended for pool walls is used to prepare a cleaning solution for an emptied pool. It is not a dosage per cubic metre of pool water.

When should you use this pool descaler?

Use this product when persistent mineral deposits or rust stains are present on compatible surfaces, filtration components or suitable electrodes.

Descaling is a targeted maintenance operation. The manufacturer does not specify a universal monthly or seasonal application schedule.

To understand why mineral deposits form, read our guide to preventing and removing limescale in swimming pools.

Dosage and instructions for use

Cleaning emptied swimming pools

For cleaning the surfaces of a drained swimming pool:

  1. Prepare a cleaning solution using 200 mL to 1 L of descaler per 1 L of water, depending on the amount of scale.

  2. Always add the descaler to the water, never water to the descaler.

  3. Apply the solution to compatible surfaces.

  4. Allow 5 minutes of contact time.

  5. Brush the surfaces and rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water.

These quantities are for preparing a surface-cleaning solution. They must not be interpreted as a treatment dose for the entire pool.

Descaling sand filters

The required quantity depends on the filter's rated flow capacity in m³/h, not the swimming pool's water volume.

Filter flow capacity Descaler quantity
4–6 m³/h 2 L
7–10 m³/h 3 L
11–15 m³/h 5 L

According to the manufacturer, the corresponding quantity is introduced into the filter or pre-filter and left to act for 24 hours, followed by a backwash.

Follow the filtration equipment manufacturer's instructions and the applicable wastewater-handling requirements. Do not extrapolate the table to other filter capacities without manufacturer guidance.

Descaling diatomaceous earth (DE) filters

The manufacturer's instructions specify soaking suitable plates, candles or discs in a 25% descaler solution for 12 hours, followed by rinsing with water.

Check the compatibility of the filter components and the manufacturer's mixing instructions before preparing the solution.

Descaling compatible electrodes

For electrodes whose manufacturer permits acidic cleaning:

  1. Prepare a 50% descaler solution in accordance with the applicable instructions.

  2. Allow the solution to act for 15 minutes.

  3. Empty the cleaning solution using the appropriate waste-handling procedure.

  4. Repeat if necessary until the scale deposits have dissolved, without exceeding the equipment manufacturer's restrictions.

These instructions do not establish universal compatibility with all electrodes or salt chlorinator cells.

Do not use this product to clean iopool EcO pH or ORP sensors without explicit compatibility approval.

For additional information, read our guide to saltwater pools and salt chlorine generators.

Cleaning pool surrounds

For suitable poolside surfaces, the technical sheet recommends 30–50 mL of descaler per 1 L of water, for manual application or use with a floor-cleaning machine.

Check the surface material and cleaning equipment compatibility before use.

Safety precautions

DANGER — H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.

This product is corrosive. Before handling:

  • Read the product label and safety data sheet carefully.

  • Wear suitable protective gloves, protective clothing and eye/face protection.

  • Use in a properly ventilated area.

  • Never mix the descaler with other chemical products.

  • Observe the incompatibilities with bases, organic materials and metals identified in the safety data sheet.

  • Keep the original container tightly closed, away from children, heat, light and freezing conditions.

The presence of a corrosion inhibitor does not guarantee that the product is safe for every surface or material.

Dispose of residues and cleaning solutions according to the manufacturer's instructions and local regulations. Do not discharge the product into drains or waterways.

In case of skin or eye contact, immediately follow the first-aid instructions on the label and contact a poison centre or doctor without delay.

How can you help prevent limescale deposits?

Descaling removes existing deposits but does not replace regular water balance monitoring.

Use iopool 6-in-1 test strips to check water hardness and other relevant parameters. The EcO water analyser monitors pH, ORP and water temperature but does not directly measure hardness.

These measurements can support limescale prevention. They do not replace the manufacturer's descaling instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this product a preventive anti-scale treatment?

No. It is designed to remove existing deposits from compatible surfaces and equipment, not to prevent scale by treating pool water.

Can it be used to clean cartridge filters?

The manufacturer's instructions cover sand filters and DE filters but do not provide a procedure for cartridge filters. Compatibility should not be assumed.

Is Purissimeau descaler suitable for all pool surfaces?

The manufacturer describes broad compatibility with pool finishes. However, individual materials, metallic components and equipment may have specific restrictions that must be checked before cleaning.

Can it be used on iopool EcO probes?

Compatibility with EcO pH and ORP sensors has not been established. Always follow the dedicated EcO cleaning and maintenance instructions.

How often should a sand filter be descaled?

No fixed frequency is specified. Descaling should be based on the condition of the filter and its manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
