Active Oxygen Pool Shock Chlorine-Free Powder – 1 kg

iopool Active Oxygen Pool Shock – 1 kg is a chlorine-free, stabiliser-free oxidising powder designed to support swimming pool water treatment and improve water clarity.

Formulated with pentapotassium bis(peroxymonosulphate) bis(sulphate) at 900 g/kg, it helps break down organic contaminants and chloramines that can contribute to cloudy water and chlorine odours.

According to the product label, it can be used alongside chlorine or bromine water treatment systems, either as a shock treatment or as part of a weekly maintenance routine.

What does active oxygen pool shock do?

This non-chlorine shock treatment acts by oxidising organic contaminants in pool water.

Its main applications include:

  • Improving water clarity by breaking down organic impurities.

  • Reducing chloramines, which contribute to unpleasant combined-chlorine odours.

  • Providing supplementary oxidation without adding chlorine or cyanuric acid stabiliser.

  • Supporting bromine-treated pools by helping regenerate bromine.

Active oxygen shock is a supplementary oxidising treatment. It should not be relied upon alone to maintain a lasting disinfectant residual in the pool.

When should you use active oxygen shock?

The product label supports two main treatment routines:

  • Shock treatment: when water becomes cloudy or contains an increased level of organic contaminants.

  • Weekly treatment: to supplement routine pool maintenance at the stated dosage.

For heavy algae concentrations, the manufacturer also specifies doubling the shock-treatment dose.

Maintain appropriate water balance and background disinfection alongside this treatment. If you need to compare water care options, explore the iopool swimming pool treatment range.

How much active oxygen shock should you use?

The manufacturer's shock-treatment dosage is 200 g per 10 m³ of swimming pool water.

Treatment Label dosage
Shock treatment 200 g per 10 m³
Heavy algae concentration Double the shock-treatment dose
Weekly maintenance 100 g per 10 m³

These are distinct applications. Use the appropriate dosage for the intended treatment and follow the instructions on the product label.

How to use active oxygen pool shock

  1. Check your pool water. Measure the pH and check that your usual disinfection treatment is properly maintained. iopool's general recommended pH range is 7.2–7.6.

  2. Determine the required amount using your pool volume and the appropriate treatment dosage.

  3. Check the skimmer. Make sure the active oxygen powder cannot come into direct contact with other concentrated pool chemicals, including chlorine or bromine tablets.

  4. Switch on the filtration system.

  5. Add the required amount to the skimmer while filtration is running, as instructed on the label.

  6. Prevent direct contact between the undiluted product and the pool liner or shell.

  7. Recheck water conditions and the background disinfectant before returning the pool to normal use.

Never mix concentrated pool chemicals. Compatibility with chlorine- or bromine-treated water does not mean that the products can be mixed directly.

Safety precautions and storage

DANGER — Corrosive chemical product.

According to the label, the product is harmful if swallowed, causes severe skin burns and serious eye damage, and is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.

  • Keep in the original container, protected from light and moisture, at 5°C to 25°C.

  • Do not discharge into drains or waterways.

  • Dispose of the product and its container in accordance with local regulations.

If swallowed, contact a poison centre or doctor immediately and do not induce vomiting. In case of eye contact, rinse carefully with water for several minutes and follow the emergency instructions on the label.

For additional advice, read the iopool guide to safe storage of swimming pool chemicals.

Monitor your pool water with iopool

Regular water testing remains essential, even when using a supplementary shock treatment.

The iopool app helps you monitor pool water parameters and access maintenance advice. For manual checks, iopool 6-in-1 pool test strips can be used to measure pH, free chlorine, total chlorine and other key water balance parameters.

The EcO smart water monitor does not directly measure active oxygen concentration. Always follow the product label for dosing and safe application.

Frequently asked questions

Can active oxygen shock be used with chlorine or bromine?

Yes. The product label confirms compatibility with chlorine- and bromine-treated pool water. However, never mix concentrated products or allow them to come into direct contact inside the skimmer.

Does active oxygen shock replace regular chlorine treatment?

Not automatically. This product provides supplementary oxidation to help manage organic contamination. It is not a substitute for maintaining an appropriate background disinfectant residual.

How often should active oxygen be added?

The label specifies a weekly treatment of 100 g per 10 m³, and a shock treatment of 200 g per 10 m³ when required.

Can this product be used in a hot tub or spa?

The supplied label specifies application through a swimming pool skimmer. It does not confirm a separate spa-use protocol, so suitability for a hot tub must be checked with the manufacturer.

When is it safe to swim after treatment?

The supplied label does not specify a fixed waiting time. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and make sure pool water conditions and background disinfectant levels are appropriate before swimming.

Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
