Filling Your Pool With Rainwater? Yes It’s Possible !
Worried about your water bills? Looking for an eco-friendly alternative to tap water for your pool? Rainzater might be the anszer! It's time to install a rainwater harvesting system.
Filling a Pool With Rainwater
If you want to fill your pool with rainwater, it is possible with a filtration system and suitable treatment. You can also mix running water and rainwater.
In addition to the ecological side, a rainwater recovery system also enhances the house. Sometimes, it is possible to obtain financial aid for its installation (depending on where you live).
Rainwater Recovery Systems
There are different water harvesting systems. Their characteristics depend on the type of house, the rainfall, the size of the roof and the water needs.
The most common solution is the installation of buried tanks or concrete cisterns to collect rainwater. They help regulate the pH level because the rain is acidic. There are also external tanks for a lower price and whose utility is the same.
Pros And Cons
Here is why you should invest in a rainwater system for your pool:
Reduces water bill costs. Especially if you have a big pool to fill.;
Kinder to the environment;
reduces flooding risks. Indeed, the tanks gather excess water.
Cons include:
Might need additional treatment;
Tanks volume is not illimited.
Treating Rainwater
Rainwater is generally softer than tap water (it has low hardness) but tends to have a higher acidity level, and thus a lower pH. In addition, it may contain impurities and/or a little dust. You will find deeper information here.
To avoid having cloudy water or green water, it is advisable to have the collected rainwater fully analyzed to find out its composition. You can then use the appropriate pool chemicals (often disinfectants, pH+ or pH-). After that, restart the filtration and start treating the water with the products necessary for the correct balance of the water.
